Grandpa and Grandma

I met my grandpa Freddy at thirteen during my Ghana trip. It was a little overwhelming for me. Grandpa was so exhilarated. "Rose, it's me-grandpa!" He was has watched me grow up with the photographs my mom kept sending to him. The encounter was really nice. We bonded really well. The name, "grandpa" was foreign to me. I actually thought I didn't have a grandpa, that he had died years ago. My parents never mention him. I've always been close with my grandma Amma. She's really the only grandparent that I've connected with. She makes me so proud to be her granddaughter. My grandma is a very powerful women in her country. She has strength, intelligence, and beauty. Unfortunately, I never get to see my grandparents since they live so far away. I miss them both. I remember several weeks ago when my cousin Nicole was talking about how grandparents really care for their grandchildren. She talked about how their love is so golden and true and touching and can really make a huge impact on a child's life. Grandparents are wise, loving, and role models.

"Don't play with my emotions"

Don't play with my emotions.

Because I can feel those words you speak.

Your lies are the dark whispers that put me too sleep.

Your face haunts me in my dreams

whileMy heart twists with ecstasy.

Don't play me. Don't play with my emotions.

Because, I can feel every wound you give me,The pain is so real.

Don't test me, don't try me.

I kind of know your pain...My gramma just died in March from lung cancer...it was a hard year watching her die...and now it's even harder not having her to call every day when something good happens, or I'm mad...she was like my BFF. My dad's parents live in NY so we see them every 2 years...so I'm not as close to them as I am my mom's dad. He lives 90 minutes away...which was good with my gram. We were up there every other week helping her. We pretty much lived there. So it was hard...I'd forget a book, or something every time we went up, I got to a point where I just wanted to bring everything up and leave it there. We also like had to go up for emergincies and stuff, so we packed in a hurry a lot. Not Fun. so yeah. I only have three grandparents now.

Grandparents can be a pretty important part of your life if you're close to them. I'm pretty close with my one grandma... I can't imagine Sunday nights without going to her house for pasta.

And that's a lovely poem (:

Wow, your grandparents live in Ghana? That's amazing, but even more amazing is their love for you from that distance. You're such a great poet too.

peace&love

My grandparents live an hour away from me so I see them pretty often. In fact, I just came back from their house. I'm really sorry you don't get to see yours more often.

Wow, I'm sorry you don't have your grandparents so close. I know I would die if I didn't see my granfma at LEAST once a week. She lives right up the street from me and her convienince is reasurring and I love seeing her constantly. But I guess since you never got as close to your grandpa its not the same but still, I wish you could see them more often. Its always nice to visit with them, isn't it? At least you have some, I feel bad for those who don't have grandparents. I'm really glad yours care about you though, for some reason that makes me soooo happy! ♥♥♥

All my grandparents are gone, but I did have a chance to know them all. I lost my first grandparent a few months after I got married.

Then my second grandparent died 5 days after I gave birth to SKippy and we lived up north at the time.

Then I lost my last 2 down here in Florida. Adn truth be told, I miss them all and for different reasons. I wish I had listened to them more when they were still alive and tolerated their weird habits...trust me, we will all do the same, it is inevidible.

I was closer to some than others, but I gave all them the one thing they deserved...Respect!

I don't get to visit my grandparents a lot either. One pair lives about a hour drive away and I don't get over there a lot and my other two pairs of grandparents live in new york and I live in Utah so I only really get to see them when they come visit us. This year though we went to New York to sea my dad's side of the family. One of my many grandpas died a couple years ago on Thanksgiving. That was more of a blessing though because he had been sick for a long time. I'm sorry you never really get to see your grandparents. my dad never met his.
